Kristine, a Midwest native, is a registered Occupational Therapist licensed in the state of California. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master of Arts degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California (USC).

For the last twenty years Kristine has devoted attention to the well-being of children. She specializes in pediatric occupational therapy services that support and promote growth in aspects of gross motor, fine motor, behavior, social, emotional/psychological, communication, adaptive and self-help skills.

While earning her degree at USC, she received a federal scholarship to pursue the application of technology to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities and began her career an Assistive Technology Specialist while teaching at the High Tech Training Center at Santa Monica College.

Kristine has worked in a variety of settings including in-home early intervention, skilled nursing facilities, the acute rehabilitation units of Stanford Hospital and Keck Hospital of USC and numerous school districts in Northern California during her employment at California Children’s Services (CCS) San Francisco and the Center for Accessible Technology in Berkeley (CforAT).

In Colorado, she coordinated augmentative communication and adaptive computer technology programs for Easter Seals. As an IntelliTools Training Specialist she provided staff development to people across North America. She founded a private practice and took a position as Project Coordinator of JFK Partners’ Project Participate and Instructor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Medical Sciences Campus. Kristine worked with school teams throughout Colorado to successfully include of students with diverse needs in the classroom.

Over her career she has gained extensive experience working with children with a variety of diagnoses such as sensory processing disorders, learning and developmental disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, physical disabilities and complications from premature birth.

Kristine uses clinical observation and caregiver interviews to assess clients but also embraces formal testing procedures to examine all the facets of a young child’s development. Her repertoire of assessments includes the Developmental Assessment of Young Children (DAYC) and The Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID-III). She uses the Sensory Profile created by Winnie Dunn PhD, OTR FAOTA to measure sensory processing abilities and to profile the effect of sensory processing on functional performance in a child’s daily life.

She modifies therapy techniques and approaches to meet the individual needs of each client. Her repertoire includes Sensory Integrative and Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT/Bobath) techniques, the Handwriting without Tears curriculum and the Therapressure protocol. For the management of feeding, eating, and swallowing issues, Kristine takes a sensory-based approach to intervention and incorporates positive reinforcement, shaping (food chaining) and fading into treatment sessions.

Her current interests include child-directed sensory play, infant massage, pediatric yoga and Astronaut Therapy. She authored an article for the premier issue of OT Practice and has lectured at local, national and international conferences including the CSUN Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference, Closing the Gap, Courage to Risk, the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) Conference, and the Annual American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Conference.

She hopes that the children and families she meets through Innovative Speech and Language Pathology will see Occupational Therapy as a means for facilitating optimal quality of life.
